CFE II projects results in Moldova
CFE II resulted with a network of well-trained NGOs who have managed to reach communities and participate in public policy making through close collaboration with local authorities and community leaders so that adaptation to climate change becomes one of the key points in the policy agenda locally. The project resulted with 6 officially adopted adaptation plans that were integrated into local development policy documents and 12 small scale projects implemented to lower the risks posed by the consequences of climate change.
Adaptation as an approach requires a lot of creativity, thus, the typology of implemented measures varies from information systems to enhance preparedness of decision-makers for climate-related natural hazards, protection strips to rehabilitate depredated land, model platforms for manure storage and composting to obtain soil fertilizer for its treatment, thermal rehabilitation of public buildings and permeable sidewalks that allow rapid drainage and avoid rain off damage.
Through this project, awareness actions have also been implemented, mobilizing communities through a national media campaign and strengthening of a new generation of young ambassadors in the field of climate change. In conclusion, CFE II provided support for non-governmental organizations to achieve sustainable results and increase awareness among target groups. All of this was possible with the help of a capacities development program that addressed capacity gaps and weaknesses in undertaking the local climate change adaptation planning process;
Furthermore, the national network of NGOs having tools, experience and partners needed at local and regional level will follow to further advocate adaptation for a better change.
