How rural communities are increasing land productivity and adapting to weather variability
In Mihaileni village, two recommended measures from Local Action Plan for climate change adaptation are being implemented. Construction of a ‘model platform’ for manure storage and composting to be used by local landowners, farmers and thermal rehabilitation of two kindergartens to cope with temperature variability during cooling heating seasons.
In March 2017, the local NGO “CeVaPe” prepared technical documentation for construction, and necessary partnership were established for technical work. The platform is expected to be finalized by the end of June 2017.
As for the second project in the village implemented by the NGO “Mostenitorii”, during first months of 2017, it was elaborated an initial assessment of resource consumption/expenditure of kindergartens during heating/cooling season prior to the intervention which concluded with the institution’s inability to cope in case of sudden temperature. Local public authority is playing a key role in project implementation assuring a high level of public engagement and in-kind contribution. The project is expected to be finalized by June 2017 as well.
